The picture above is one of my favorite -- taken in 1958, it shows a woman sitting on her luggage in Grand Central Terminal, seemingly taking in all of the chaos around her. That's how I feel sometimes, or maybe how I'd like to feel: an observer, calmly making sense of the madness around me.

I’ve been blogging for a very long time in addition to writing on Medium for over two years. I'm an historian and educator most interested in how the past shapes our present.

On Medium, I write about history, education, the environment, and politics with an occasional foray into humor.
